The permit auction typically takes place in September or October, with hunting permits for Himalayan ibex ranging from $10,000 to $13,000 depending on the hunting zone and demand.

The official ibex hunting season in Pakistan runs from October through March, with December and January considered the peak months. During this window, mature males descend to lower elevations, making them more accessible to hunters while cold, clear conditions offer excellent visibility for spot-and-stalk hunting.

Only mature males are permitted to be harvested, ensuring breeding populations remain strong. With experienced local trackers and professional outfitters, ibex hunts in Pakistan enjoy a virtually 100% success rate. A bull with 40+ inch horns is considered a good trophy; horns measuring 44 to 45 inches or more are exceptional and highly sought after by international hunters.

Your ibex hunting expedition begins with a flight into Islamabad, followed by a scenic drive or domestic flight to Gilgit or Chitral. From there, a 4x4 vehicle takes you to the base village nearest your allocated hunting zone. The final approach is on foot, trekking with porters and experienced local trackers into the mountains at elevations of 3,000 to 4,500 metres.

The hunting method is spot-and-stalk across rugged, rocky terrain. Guides glass ridgelines and high pastures at dawn and dusk, locating herds of ibex before planning a careful approach. Once a mature trophy bull is identified, the stalk begins, often requiring patience and careful maneuvering across steep slopes.

Hunts typically take 5 to 8 days in the field. During the peak December and January season, expect cold conditions with temperatures dropping to -15°C, clear skies, and snow at higher altitudes. Hunters should have reasonable fitness for hiking at altitude, though the pace is steady rather than strenuous. Camp life is comfortable, with warm meals and heated tents provided by your support team.
